Positive: We had a lovely week here. Settle is a perfect base for a walking holiday- it's right in the Yorkshire Dales and you can walk straight from the doorstep, or take a short drive or even the train to lots of great walking spots. The village itelf is also lovely, with lots of cafes and a few pubs and restaurants. This little cottage was a perfect base for us. It has a fully equipped kitchen and a large bedroom too. It was just what we needed!

Negative: Street parking is limited, although we did always manage to get a spot.

Positive: Small ‘worker’s cottage’, tastefully renovated/ repurposed to make excellent accommodation. Enclosed log stove has to be the best we have come across; highly efficient. This part of town is very quiet and picturesque; just a few minute’s walk to the very adequate Co-Op supermarket (firewood available) and a little further to the larger Boothes supermarket. Able to do a number of country rambles direct from the house… highly recommended. Don’t really know about the parking- we travelled without a car and felt this worked well as we were able to walk from the door plus had the option of one-way walks using the railway and bus service. (BEWARE- this is v much a heritage property- anything in this category is likely to have steep stairs!!- I definitely like the historic nature of the building as a big plus, but this may not suit mobility impaired!)

Negative: The cottage is great and communication with host great, but…. We booked from overseas through booking.com and paid in full. Almost immediately received an email demand from the local managing company, Sykes for an additional 96.19 UK pounds to be paid to Sykes on the same day to secure the booking. Sykes provided a phone number which we called but this leads to 3 options: ‘New Bookings’, ‘Existing Sykes bookings’, ‘Bookings through a 3rd party partner’ such as booking.com…. Selecting the option for 3rd party bookings we were placed on hold… gave up after 10 minutes and tried again later. And again. And again. Eventually selected the ‘New Bookings’ option, which was answered immediately- however the agent was only able to transfer us to a line for 3rd party bookings… gave up on this one after another 20 minutes on hold. Eventually called booking.com and explained- they tried phoning on the numbers they had but also could not get through, however promised to email Sykes to clear things up. Evidently this worked- next day we received confirmation of our booking (but no apology for the confusion)… also received multiple other emails from Sykes- eventually 18 in total. So many emails that it was difficult to sift through and find which one actually had the key pick-up instructions. Really, 18 emails and not one of them including an apology… So, I would definitely recommend the house….. but recommend the owner give serious consideration to their management options!

Summary: Lovely cottage in heritage quarter of Settle- definitely one of the best

Negative: The description was a bit confusing. We never did find the garden!

Positive: The cottage has a really cosy feel, we went in summer, but I can imagine the wood burner fire up in winter and it being the snuggest of places to be. The bed is massive and super comfy and there's all the kitchen is kitted out so you can cook. The location is brilliant just a few minute walk from the town. A great spot to hit the dales on foot or use as a base to drive around and explore this amazing plaxce.

Summary: Superb accommodation, we will be back!
